A Norfolk Southern freight train experienced a derailment in East Palestine on February 3, 2023. Norfolk Southern selected Project Navigator, Ltd. to perform as Project Coordinator pursuant to a U.S. EPA CERCLA Order a few days later.

PNL’s project coordination efforts, as of February 2024, in concert with other Norfolk Southern retained resources, has resulted in the following major project actions: 

  • 47MM gallons of water recovered and transported offsite;
  • 176K tons of waste soil removed from the derailment area;
  • 1,280 drinking water wells sampled.
